In addition to viewing all resources on site, NYBG members, students, staff members, or volunteers may sign up for a library card in order to check out items from our Member’s and General Collection. Library card privileges also include off-site access to electronic resources. Library cards may be obtained in person or via the online library card application.
The general public is welcome to consult library resources within the library. You do not need to pay for entry. Upon your arrival let NYBG Security or a Visitor Services team member know that you are here to visit Mertz Library. Accessing the library is free— you do not need to pay for admission. However, if you wish to explore the gardens during your visit a ticket is needed.
Two computer kiosks are available for use and personal computer use is welcome—free WiFi available for use.
There is a book scanner available for your use at no charge. Please ask for permission to photograph materials.
*Anyone may visit during the hours we are open, and do not need to make an appointment. However, if you would like to conduct in-depth research it is suggested that you email before your visit so that we can get a jump-start on helping you find resources.
