Everett was a natural promoter and networker. Having the vocal reach of an orator, he seldom needed a microphone. Outside the Garden, he was an engaging, sought-after speaker. He was a judge at flower shows and a longtime landscape consultant to the Port Authority of New York. He was featured on radio and television, wrote the weekly “Gardeners’ Forum” of the New York Herald Tribune, and became consulting editor of Flower Grower Magazine. He was a guide for several travel agencies, leading popular garden tours around the world.
