NYBG Plant Information Service: Home

The Plant Information Office was established in 1968.  The service operates out of The LuEsther T. Mertz Library where the staff relies heavily on the Library’s collections, as well as their own professional experience, to answer a variety of questions from the public related to plants.  Popular topics include indoor and outdoor horiculture, with staff providing expertise in a variety of areas, including plant ID, integrated pest management, landscape design, and floral design.

The service provides valuable information on cultural requirements such as planting, fertilizing, pruning and propagation as well as assistance with landscape design inquiries.  The office is an exceptional regional resource for those in NYC and surrounding areas, (Westchester, New Jersey, Long Island, etc.), and is a free and valuable resource for those further afield, both nationally and beyond.
