Botanical Traveler

Marcus E. Jones

Marcus E. Jones (1852–1934), was a geologist, mining engineer, and self-trained botanist. He traveled by horse and wagon through the western states and collected an extensive herbarium thought to be the largest in the country at that time. Jones published his own journal called Contributions to Western Botany that allowed him the freedom to write whatever he saw fit. His herbarium is owned by Pomona College in Claremont, California and housed at the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden.
