The Mertz Library was among the first libraries and cultural heritage institutions in the United States to implement a robust digitization program. The program is now over 20 years old, and we have contributed over 4 million images to Mertz Digital, the Biodiversity Heritage Library, the DPLA, and other online repositories. Below are a selection of the digitization policies and procedures developed by Mertz Library staff. We hope that these documents will be useful to other cultural heritage institutions who are developing or updating their own digitization policies and procedures, and provide a peek into the important work done by our Conservation & Digital Services team.
