Arthur O. Tucker: Botanist for the Masses: Legacy

TUCKER'S LEGACY

Arthur Tucker pursued botany with a genuine interest in its many curiosities. He leaves an impressive collaborative legacy which covers the spectrum of botanical work from the academic to the popular. The scope of Tucker’s academic contributions is reflected in his systematic investigation of Mentha along with his encyclopedic compendium of herbs.

As co-founder and Director of the Claude E. Phillips Herbarium at the College of Agriculture and Related Sciences of Delaware State University, Tucker published works that aimed to raise public awareness of the importance of preserving Delaware’s botanical heritage with the identity, collection, and study of rare plants.

Rare and Endangered Vascular Plant Species in Delaware and Conservation of Rare Plants in Delaware are two examples of his efforts to educate the public and the scientific community.
