Welcome to the LuEsther T. Mertz Library!

Library Services

Visiting the Mertz Library

  • Open hours are Tuesday- Friday: 10a.m.- 4p.m. Hours are subject to change. Check the website for up to date hours.The library reading room provides study space, computers, scanners, electrical outlets, course reserve books and Wi-Fi for all of your research needs.

  • Computer terminals and a public printer are available for use.

  • Beverages must be in spill-proof thermos/mug with a secure, leak-proof lids. Open container beverages are not allowed.

  • Consumption of food is not allowed in all areas of the Library.

  • Cellphone and videocalls are not permitted in the library.

Circulation and Reference

The Mertz librarians assist visitors in locating materials they might need and provide guidance, advice and referrals to collections and materials. Other services our librarians can assist with are the following:

  • Apply for a library card.

    • With a library card you can check out books from the circulating collection (for 3 weeks!) and access over 100+ electronic books and journal databases from home.

  • Submit an Interlibrary Loan request (delivery time vary between 1-7 business days).

  • General library account and circulation assistance. i.e. renew overdue library books, update contact information.

  • Place titles on hold and request items to be pulled in advance so they are ready for pick-up upon your arrival.

  • Schedule one-on-one or group trainings of library resources and tours of library collections and space.

  • Make an appointment to view archival, rare, and special collection materials.

  • Request research assistance and one-on-one reference interviews.

The Plant Information Office operates as a part of the LuEsther T. Mertz Library and is available to answer your home gardening questions. Read our gardening guides, our gardening FAQ, and send us your questions.
